Working with 6x6 Paper Pads

Hola from the middle of Hurricane Sandy... Here is a card that I made for Neat and Tangled Stamps and for this week's CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge.

I have a bunch of tips on how to work with patterned papers from 6x6 paper pads on the Neat and Tangled Blog today, and I hope you'll head on over to check it out. All of the details about my card can be found there too.

Hope you're dry and safe!

P.S. In case you missed it, my blogoversary giveaway can be found here. :)

Hope You Can Cling To and a Giveaway

Hi friends! This morning I woke up and saw this challenge posted by Splitcoaststampers on Facebook, and wanted to play along. It's the Hope You Can Cling to Challenge series in honor of breast cancer awareness and benefiting MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The particular challenge that I am playing along with is HYCCT1228, which challenged us to make a clean and simple card where the sentiment is the focus of the card. I used my favorite sentiment set from Neat and Tangled stamps and some cardstock, ink, and glitter from A Muse Studio.

This October also marks the 3-year anniversary of this blog, and I am so very grateful for all the fun and encouragement I have received from all of you. I love this hobby and am so flattered that anyone even stops by here! So, without gushing too too much, I am offering up some blog candy!

I've chosen a variety of new items from my craft room for one lucky winner to enjoy. Because the photo isn't so great, here is a list of the items included in the prize package:
  • A Muse Studio cardstock sampler
  • A Muse Studio Fight Like a Girl Stamp set
  • A Muse Studio Burano, Watermelon, and Shell inkpads
  • A Muse Studio organdy ribbon in Shell & assorted twine/stitched ribbon
  • Bo Bunny Rejoice 6x6 paper pad
  • My Favorite Things Ice Skating Flopsey stamp set
  • Paper Smooches Love Monkey stamp
  • Papertrey Ink Heart-2-Heart #2 (balloon set) with die
  • Stampin' Up! Sprinkled Expressions
  • Waltzingmouse Stamps twine and wood buttons
  • 2 packs Recollections foam adhesive circles (1/4 inch and 1/2 inch sizes)
Most of the A Muse products were generously sent to me by A Muse Studio when they sponsored the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge a few weeks ago to promote their Fight Like a Girl free stamp set promotion. I have these inks and papers and ribbon already, so I am spreading the love! By the way, you still have time to order your free set and can do that by clicking here.

And the Waltzingmouse Stamps twine and wood buttons were sent to me by Claire Brennan, owner of WMS...well, because she offers some of the most spectacular customer service in the industry and is just as sweet as can be!

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me what your favorite crafty products are at this very moment! All comments received by November 15 are eligible for the prize. I will also ship internationally. :)

Thanks again SO SO much and have a fun day,

Retrosketches #35

It's my last week as one of this month's headliners over on the most awesome Retrosketches Challenge blog, and I can't thank Arielle enough for having me! This week's sketch is based on a card made by the other headliner this month, Jen Wills:

I rotated sketch, and then I was inspired by all the lines in the tree trunks to use the large Halloween sentiment stamp from Purple Onion Designs. I paired it with some patterned paper from My Minds Eye and added some Kaiser Craft sparklets as the circles. This could be the last Halloween card of the year, and I need to get some of these out in the mail today!

Thanks for stopping by!

CAS-ual Fridays 76: Kraft On

TGIF! It's time for another CAS-ual Fridays Challenge and this week we're challenging you to incorporate kraft into your creation. At first glance my card may seem like a whole lot of layers, but the truth is that the kraft tag is all one piece - it's a Pebbles tag that came that way. So perfect and easy to use for this challenge.

Our sponsor this week is CAS-ual Fridays Stamps - you could win a sweet gift card to the store! I used a sentiment from Truth Is on the banner diecut, which was layered over some Crate Paper patterned paper.

They stamp amazingly! Hope you'll join us and that you have a fun weekend planned! Thanks for stopping by...

Holiday Shoebox Swap

Hope you all had a fun weekend!  I wanted to share a card that I made for a holiday shoebox swap at Ink About It, one of my local stamp shops. The theme was "Something Old, Something New," and I chose to use a new Memory Box die and stamp with some old paper and embellishments to make this Halloween card. We could choose any holiday: Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas, and the card had to be assembled in 10 minutes or less.

I used the same layout as I did on this card, which was made using Neat and Tangled stamps. The gingham paper is from A Muse, as it the pebble cardstock on the banner. The orange and black papers are from Bazzill, and I used a My Favorite Things Stax die to cut the orange window layer.

In total we made 16 cards, I am excited to send some of these creations to my craftiest friends! I know they'll love them. :)

Retrosketches #34

Happy Weekend! I am back with a card for this week's Retrosketches Challenge, using lots of Hero Arts goodies. I had an awesome time at my classes with Shari Carroll of Hero Arts on Thursday and just had to use my new Holiday Cheer set.

I rotated the sketch and stamped Tiny Flakes onto patterned paper from Basic Grey's Aspen Frost collection. I stamped and diecut the reindeer and trees, using Copics to color the reindeer and his sweater, and then I stamped the sentiment from Two Birds in a Tree in kraft ink.

The bow was tied using Designer Twine, which I love because it has a very smooth finish. I added some mini pearls to the trees and called it day! I am entering this into the October Hero Arts contest as well - they have some holiday challenges going on and I wanted to join in the fun.

I can't wait to play with the reindeer some more. Hope you have a crafty weekend planned! I am going to a shoebox swap tomorrow and have to plan my projects. :)

CAS-ual Fridays 75: Over the Edge

Yippee!!! For another CAS-ual Fridays Challenge! This is my first time posting on a Friday as part of the group. "Get your party on!" because it's time to make a project with an element that extends beyond the base.

For my card this week, I used American Crafts papers because I thought the colors were party perfect, and the stamps were provided by this week's sponsor. Trust me when I tell you that you will want to run on over to the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge blog to find out more because there may be some prizes involved! *wink wink*

The images were heat embossed in white over the patterned papers and the panel was mounted onto a raspberry fizz cardstock base. The element that I designed to hang off the left side of the card is the bright yellow paper tab which was cut with an A Muse Studio pinking border die.

I can't wait for you to see what's in store on the challenge blog, including the rest of the team's creations! Thanks for stopping by and have a fun weekend!

Waltzingmouse Blog Party

I made a card real quick for this month's Walzingmouse Blog Party. Our theme was a color challenge...head on over to the Waltzingmouse Blog to check it out!

I used some of Claire's most gorgeous Halloween images to create this fun card. The patterened paper and corner stickers are from SEI, and the bling is from Doodlebug designs. The splatter image is from Recollections.

Sorry if I seem rushed but this blog party ends today and I have to get ready for my card class with Shari Carroll at my local stamp shop!! I am so excited!

Have a fun day,

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge: Designer Drafts

I just watched the Patriots lose by 1 point and needed a quick pick-me-up so I decided to play along in this week's Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge!

When I saw the triangular shape in the sketch, I automatically thought of the tree in All Yule Need. I used a PTI die to cut the tag, and paper pieced everything using Versafine ink and October Afternoon's Holiday Style collection.

I selectively inked up part of the "Joy to the World" sentiment so it would fit on the tag, and finished it all off with some red bling and sheer ribbon. I also added a bit of Distress Inks to the edges of the tag.

That's all for tonight! Hugs!

CAS-ual Fridays 74: Put Your Heart into It

Hey everyone! It's time for another CAS-ual Fridays Challenge, and this week's challenge is to incorporate hearts into your project, which is fitting since our sponsor this week is i {heart} papers!

Rather than use dies or stamps, I used some Hero Arts heart pearls on this card for my husband. Yes, it's pink. I am not the best with manly cards. I stamped the Tim Holtz sentiment onto the diecut frame and later mounted over some My Minds Eye papers. The scalloped edge was diecut and stamped using a set from Clear and Simple Stamps - LOVE this!

Here you get a better view of the heart bling and the piercing.
So what are your plans for the weekend? Anything good? I hope to do some more crafting and maybe some napping! Thanks for stopping by!

Retrosketches 32: I'm the October Headliner!

This is my second post for today. For my very special CAS-ual Fridays post, please scroll down. :)

Hello! Happy World Card Making Day! I am psyched to tell you that the lovely Arielle Gordon has invited me to be the October Headliner on the Retrosketches blog! Woo hoo!

Knowing how much Arielle loves candy corn, today's card was inspired by her. I used an A Muse Studio stamp set called Candy Corn Kisses, and paired it with patterned papers from Authentique Paper's Enchanted line.

I used distress ink and glitter to decorate the sentiment panel, and diecut a button from patterned paper using a Memory Box die; it was colored yellow to match the candy corns.

I finished the button off with some May Arts black jute twine and added glitter to the candy before putting this all together. I think I need more colors of glitter. ;)

I'm getting excited for Halloween! Have a fun long weekend!

CAS-ual Fridays 73: For the Girls

Today is a very special Saturday for the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge because we are helping A Muse Studio kickoff their promotion for breast cancer awareness month. For all of the details, please see this post on the CFC blog - there's a random drawing this week just for commenting! (Our regularly scheduled prize for the month is also scheduled!)

A Muse Studio is giving away a free stamp set (plus $3 shipping + taxes) for this very special month. It's called Fight Like a Girl, and it's the set that I used on my card today. Our challenge this week was to make a card for a special woman in our life.

I wanted to create a card that could be given anytime to someone in need of extra love. For cancer patients, this comes not only when they are going through treatment, but also during recovery and every time they go back back for checkups. "Scanxiety" is the term that is often used to describe the stress leading up to annual scans, and I made this card with that particular situation in mind. I used the smallest die in the A Muse Studio poinsettia die set to diecut several flowers from Shell cardstock, and then added some A Muse Studio pearls to the centers of each one. The sentiment (from Fight Like a Girl) was stamped in their Slate ink.

I am humbled by the opportunity to do cancer research every day; if your life has been affected by other types of cancer besides breast cancer, I would love for everyone to know that research in one type of cancer truly has the ability to help all the cancers. With that in mind, I would LOVE for everyone to play along in this week's challenge and help us to increase awareness for this disease!

Hugs! xoxo
